What Are Armadillos?

Armadillos are common in various parts of the Americas, including forests, grasslands, wetlands, and deserts. They have a unique appearance, with a hard shell covering their body, head, and tail.

These mammals make their burrows and look aggressively for food all the time, making them quite notorious for gardens. They also carry certain diseases and parasites that can be harmful for your pets if they come in contact with these animals.

Do note that these mammals are not aggressive and don’t attack humans and pets. They are usually shy and tend to run away or hide when they feel threatened.

Please use methods that scare these mammals out – we don’t suggest killing these cute animals!

It would be best to use white vinegar due to its stronger smell than any other form of vinegar.

1. Use Vinegar Soaked Rags

Soak rag/s in white vinegar and put it near armadillo holes or places they visit often. This also works well under or side of your plants without harming them.

2. Create a Vinegar Spray

Spraying vinegar on the spots where you have spotted these mammals is a sure-shot way to eliminate their entry for good!

3. Make Vinegar Packets

Soak cotton balls in vinegar and put them in mesh bags. Hang these where you spot armadillos.

Check your yard regularly to see if the vinegar is working. If armadillos keep coming back, spray vinegar a few more times. If they’re really stubborn, getting professional help would be a good idea.

These animals mostly dig under barriers, but can also take advantage of existing gaps in fences or open spaces under gates.

It would be a good idea to seal off any entry point and make sure that the fence is buried at least a foot under the ground. Once you have got the entry points covered, then all you have to do is to hang vinegar-soaked cotton balls on the fence to keep them away.

Also, if you have a trash or compost pile in your garden near a fence or any entry point that you have recently sealed, then it would be wise to clean it up as it may attract these mammals in search of food, looking for more ways to enter the garden.
