Soil

These plants appreciate mildly acidic soil with a pH of 6.0-6.7, rich in organic matter. They don’t thrive well in heavy soil so ensure you add a handful of sand along with plenty of organic matter and compost to the growing medium.

Water

Regular watering of tomato plants is essential, even twice on a dry, windy day in summer. Do not allow the plants to dry out a little during the fruiting phase as it will cause cracking and splitting of tomatoes.

In warm weather, keep a close eye on the topsoil and water plants when it feels a little dry to the touch.
