This plant is popular for its dark green leaves that have a glossy surface. It is also one of the best plants for purifying indoor air. Its trailing stems look gorgeous while dangling down hanging baskets or vining around the balcony. In the right growing conditions, the plant can grow up to 4-6 feet in height/length indoors.

This easy-going plant adapts to almost every growing condition and is perfect for novice gardeners.

Requirements for Growing Jade Pothos

Sunlight

As the foliage of this plant is of solid green color, it is a little more tolerant to shade than other variegated pothos. However, avoid keeping it in the complete shade a pick a spot where it can bask in some bright and indirect light for a few hours in a day.

Soil

A regular potting mix is all you need for its lush growth. A blend of vermiculite or perlite in the ratio of 2:1 will work wonders for this plant. It grows best at a pH level between 6-6.5.

Water

The plant hates to sit in water so avoid overwatering at all costs. Allow the soil to dry out slightly between the watering sessions. Check the topsoil—if it feels dry to the touch, water the plant.

Temperature & Humidity

It will thrive in the temperature range of 60-80°F or 15-26°C. As long as it is away from the scorching afternoon sun, it will tolerate warm temperatures like a champ.

Do not expose it to a temperature below 50°F or 10°C.

Fertilizer

If you have amended the growing medium with plenty of organic matter at the time of planting, then Jade Pothos will do just fine. Once in 6-6 weeks, use a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to 1/4 of its strength. Stop feeding in winters in cold climates.

Pruning

Jade pothos can grow really quickly if the conditions are right. Keep its growth in check by pruning the leaves and stems from time to time, using clean, sharp pruning shears.

Pests & Diseases

This no-fuss plant is not much susceptible to diseases. However, keep an eye on gnats, thrips, or mealybugs. Keep them at bay using an insecticidal soap solution.

Root rot is one of the most common diseases. Avoid overwatering at any cost, and watch out for constant soggy soil.


Toxicity

The leaves of Jade Pothos have traces of calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause mouth and throat irritation if consumed. Keep it out of reach of your kids and pets if they are playful.
