6 Easy to Grow Philodendrons
1. Heartleaf Philodendron
Botanical name: Philodendron hederaceum
One of the most low-maintenance plants, its heart-shaped leaves, looks great with anywhere–indoors or outdoors. The best part is, there are many beautiful varieties available. Some of our favorites are Philodendron ‘Brasil,’ Philodendron ‘Micans,’ and Philodendron ‘Lemon Lime.’
2. Xanadu Philodendron
Botanical name: Philodendron Xanadu
The Xanadu philodendron looks so exotic with its dramatic split foliage. It grows best in filtered sunlight coming through sheer curtains or tinted window panes. But keep it at a safe spot from your dogs and cats as it contains calcium oxalate crystals, and eating it may cause symptoms like mouth irritation and vomiting.
3. Tree Philodendron
Botanical name: Philodendron bipinnatifidum
This variety and Xanadu might look identical in the picture, but both are very different. Tree philodendron grows better indoors, becoming large, tall, and top-heavy and may need regular pruning.
Note: In 2018, it was found that this plant is different from the plants in the Philodendron genus and transferred it into a new genus–Thaumatophyllum.
4. Blushing Philodendron
Botanical name: Philodendron erubescens
This blushing philodendron species has many beautiful cultivars like ‘Pink Princess,’ ‘Red Emerald,’ ‘Imperial Red,’ and ‘Burgundy Princess.’ This cute plant thrives in partial shade, and you can also train it to grow as a climber with proper support.

6. Elephant Ear Philodendron
Botanical name: Philodendron giganteum
While true elephant ears are a bit difficult to grow indoors, this philodendron is not. One more thing to note is it prefers to dry out between watering spells and doesn’t like wet feet. If you love large foliage plants, grow this one in your home–It’s perfect for big rooms.
