4. Ponytail Palm

You guys sent me a CRAZY amount of Dms yesterday when I posted about this guy.. So as promised.. This is my #ponytailpalm.. HOW old is it? I actually have no clear idea since I was gifted it from the last home owners.. But I'd love to know how old you think it is… 🤔 This guy only lives inside 6months of the year because Ponytail palms prefer to have as much light as possible.. And this works in my home.. Some care tips in what I do to look after this guy… . 🌿-Place the plant in a bright location. Bright, indirect sunlight is best. 🌿- Keep soil fairly dry. Water from spring through autumn, allowing the top inch or two of soil to dry completely before re-watering. 🌿-Requires very little water in winter. 🌿-They love Tea and Coffee grounds because it has substances that promote plants growth and health, as well as repelling pests. Just skip the cream and sugar obviously. So just black x 🌿- I also give it some worm tea every 8weeks . Such a beautiful day here in Adelaide.. Hope your all enjoying it friends x . . . . . . #earthinspiredhome #urbanjungle #junglehome #peepmypad #showmeyourstyle #smallspaces #howyouhome #myplantlovinghome #homedecor #housebeautiful #instagood #plantsmakepeoplehappy #mybohoabode #mythriftedhome #theeverygirlshome #mybohoabode #myhomesense #plantlovers #inspiremeneutral #myhomesense #howwedwell #loveyourhabitat #myhomevibe

i’d like to introduce you to a new fam member, aloe vera, who was given to me over the summer by my grandma’s neighbour. i’m not sure how old this one is, but they’re amazing + there are babies in the pot now (swipe to see a peek of them + a close up of the jagged edges). the lovely neighbour has an abundance of aloe vera (this one was an offshoot!) + basil + 🍅 plants so she shares her plants with the neighbourhood. she gave my auntie this aloe vera + others + basil, which she grows bc it reminds her of her childhood 💚 aloe vera facts 💚 • it’s the oldest + most applied medicinal plant around the world • as far back as 6000 years ago, egyptian folx have used aloe vera to treat burns, wounds, & reduce fever – it was called “the plant of immortality” (surjushe et al., 2008) • it’s got a deep history in indigenous sytems of medicine, such as ayurveda (manvitha et al., 2014) • in chinese culture, it’s an important medical plant & was a part of the everyday life of chinese folx • during the 16th century, the plant started to spread around the world due to colonization • aloe vera is derived from the arabic word “alloeh” which means “shining bitter substance,” while “vera” in latin means “true” • each leaf has three layers – an inner clear gel that is 99% water, the middle layer of latex which is the bitter yellow sap, and an outer, thick layer that is referred to as rind, which has protective functions & synthesizes carbs + proteins (surjushe et al., 2008) • research has shown that aloe vera leaves possess many properities, including antimicrobial, anticancer, antioxidant, antidiabetic, antiulcer, immunomodulatory, etc. (davis, 2009; patidar, 2012; roy et al., 2012; surjushe et al., 2008)

🌿NEW IN🌿 ^Parlor Palm Plant aka Neanthe Bella Palm ^ Chamaedorea elegans ^ 45cm ^ 15,500 NGN ^ Vase – #SoldOut Available only in White (1 Left in stock) . ~CARE~ •They are considered low-light palms, but that doesn’t mean “no-light” palms. They still prefer bright, filtered sunlight to do their best. They often do well with northern exposure. •Indoors, any high-quality potting mix will suffice. Be careful not to let the mixture break down and become spongy. Outdoors, this palm will grow well in almost any soil—sand, loam, or clay. It does not tolerate salty soil. •Like many palms, parlor palms are sensitive to overwatering and cannot tolerate being waterlogged or sitting in saturated potting mix. Ideally, keep moisture at an even level. Err on the side of slightly too dry rather than overwatering. Water 💧 when the top 1 inch of the soil feels dry. Yellow fronds will indicate the plant needs more water. •Feed with a weak liquid fertilizer once or twice during the growing season. The plants are light feeders . .
