It’s not always about the food; here’s How to Use Rosemary Clippings as a Natural Air Freshener and make the most of your plant!

Rosemary clippings are all-natural and free of chemicals, unlike in commercial products. Most importantly, once you try rosemary-clipping air fresheners, you’ll never want to switch to anything else because their scent is herbaceous, slightly minty, and somewhat camphorous. Plus, it improves mood and alertness, which is proven by science. Here are some recipes you can try.

Rosemary Clippings as Natural Air Freshener Recipes

1. DIY Room Mist with Rosemary Clippings

The first way to use rosemary clippings is to make this easy room mist. In addition to 10-15 rosemary sprigs, you would need 8 ounces of distilled water and 70% isopropyl alcohol both.

First, fill an airtight mason jar with the rosemary sprigs and alcohol and store it in a cool, dark area for two weeks, shaking well each day.

After two weeks, strain the solution through cheesecloth into a spray bottle. Your room mist is ready! Just remember to shake well after each use!

2. Simmer Rosemary in a Boiling Pot

Here’s another simple way to use rosemary as an au naturel air freshener–put some sprigs in a pot of boiling water. Keep the heat on low to prevent the water from evaporating. After an hour, remove the pot from the stove and let it cool.

Strain out the rosemary and bottle up the infused water in a spray bottle. If you are using fresh rosemary leaves, it’s best to use a batch only for a few days.

This is because fresh rosemary often contains spores, which can contribute to mold if stored longer.

If the first two methods seem a little fancy, this one will be right up your alley! Simply tie the rosemary clippings together and hang them near your shower, just like you would do with eucalyptus.

The steam from the shower will spread the fresh scent and keep the rosemary moist for longer. It’s a great way to save on commercial bathroom cleaners.

4. Lemon and Rosemary Freshener

You can enhance the fragrance of rosemary by adding lemon and vanilla extracts, too.

In a pot containing 2 cups of water, add a sliced lemon, a tablespoon of vanilla extract, and rosemary clippings. Simmer for an hour, then let the mixture cool. After straining it, you will have the most fragrant air freshener that lasts 4-5 days!

Note: This recipe lasts a few days longer than the previous ones because of the lemon juice, as the citric acid’s antifungal properties will inhibit mold growth. You can try other plants, too!

5. DIY Rosemary Clipping Car Scent

Why skip your car when you can make your home fragrant? Put rosemary clippings in a plastic bag and poke a few holes in it. You can hang the bag near windows or just keep it somewhere that allows sunlight to enter.

As the leaves dry, they’ll fill your car with a delightful aroma! The car basically acts as a greenhouse for the herb, letting in the warmth and light it needs to dry out and accentuate its fragrance.

Pro tip: You can try this method with different herbs, such as basil, thyme, and tarragon.
