How to Grow Herbs in Water from Cuttings

Things You’ll Need:

  • Clean, sharp scissors or knife
  • Clean glass jar or vase
  • Freshwater

Method:

  1. Take 3-6 inches long stem cuttings with the help of a knife or scissors. Cut below the leaf node.
  2. Remove the bottom leaves from the stem. Also, take off any buds, flowers, and big or damaged leaves.
  3. Place the cuttings in the jar filled with water, make sure top leaves have sufficient airflow. Also, ensure that no leaves get submerged in water.
  4. Keep the jar in the south or west-facing window or where the cuttings get enough indirect light.
  5. Change the water every two to three days as it will protect your herbs growing in water from bacteria and algae.
  6. To boost the plant’s growth, you can use hydroponic fertilizer. For dosage, follow instructions on the packet.
