  • Cut 4-6 inches of the lower or middle section of the plant.
  • Let the cutting dry overnight.

Light

Dieffenbachia thrives well in shady spots but needs bright indirect light for profound growth. Save the plant from the long exposures to direct sun. Keep rotating the container to keep the growth well-balanced.

Soil

Use a well-aerated, fast-draining, peaty potting soil mix. Ensure the drainage is excellent and does not cause any damage to the roots. Go for a quality commercial potting mix, or DIY it from the recipes here.

Water

Thoroughly water the plant and allow the excess water to drain from the drainage holes, whenever the topsoil feels dry to touch. You might have to water the plant more in the warmer months of the year.

Temperature and Humidity

The plant does best in the range of 65-75 F (18-24 C). Temperature below 55 F (12 C) causes slow growth, so keep it in a warm place.

This houseplant doesn’t mind dry indoor air. In case of very low humidity and dry air, use a humidifier.

Fertilizer

Use a balanced liquid fertilizer, diluted to 1/2 of its strength, once in 3-4 weeks. Avoid feeding the plant in the winter.

Pests & Diseases

Look out for aphids, scales, and spider mites. You can keep them at bay by using a neem oil solution from time to time. To avoid most of the fungal issues, avoid overwatering the plant and make sure it is well ventilated.
