Philodendron Prince of Orange Plant Information

Native to South America, Philodendron Prince of Orange is a showy tricolor epiphyte most valued for its color transition. Unlike other cultivars, it displays brightly colored leaves from the center instead of the stems or vines. Given the right conditions, it can grow upto 2-4 feet tall.

Propagating Prince of Orange Philodendron

You can easily propagate Philodendron Prince of Orange by stem cuttings or air layering. It is best to do this in spring or summer when the plant is in its growing period. It will form new growth within 2-4 weeks.

Light

As the leaves of this plant have a deep color, you must expose them to bright and indirect light for a vivid hue. Keep it near an east-facing location where it could bask in some mild and direct morning sunlight, which would be great for its color and growth.

Do not place the container in a spot exposed to scorching sunlight, as it will burn the foliage. Keep the foliage clean to help in light absorption, too.

Soil

Use well-draining soil rich in organic matter. The growing medium should be well-aerated, giving its root plenty of room to grow. While using regular garden soil, amend it with compost and coco peat. Adding a bit of perlite will help in better drainage.

Water

Philodendron Prince of Orange hates sitting in an overtly saturated growing medium or a completely dry one. Water when the topsoil feels a little dry to the touch.

Avoid watering the plant daily, as this can cause root rot.

Temperature

The plant thrives in a temperature range of 64-86°F or 18-30°C during the day. As most houseplants get damaged when exposed to a temperature below 50F (10C), avoid exposing the plant lower than that.

Keep the containers away from cold windows, vents, or drafts in colder months.

Humidity

If the air in your area is dry, keep the pot on a tray filled with pebbles and water. In typical households, this plant would do just fine.

Pests and Diseases

Philodendron Prince of Orange may get susceptible to spider mites and mealybugs. Use an insecticidal soap or neem oil solution to keep them at bay.

Avoid overwatering to protect the plant from bacterial infections, fungal diseases, and root rot.
