The flower stalks arise from the mounds holding bell-shaped blossoms in white, purple, or lavender shades. Hostas are shade-loving plants and can be grown indoors in patios or pots.

Best Pot Size for Growing Hostas
The key to growing hostas indoors is picking the right pot size, which depends on your growing variety. For dwarf varieties, a pot size between 10-12 inches is good.
However, for most other hostas, you will have to grow them in 12-18 inches large containers with a drainage hole at the bottom.
Best Varieties of Hostas for Indoors
Hostas are famous for their size and large leaves, so it is not possible to grow all of them indoors, keeping the space in mind. For rooms, you can go for small varieties like ‘Sunshine Glory,’ ‘Sum and Substance,’ ‘Frosted Mouse Ears,’ ‘Gold-Edged Plantain Lily,’ and ‘Blue Cadet’—all these grow between 8-12 inches high and wide.
If you have a bigger room and space, you can try growing ‘Sum and Substance’ and ‘Sunshine Glory’—both of them can reach 16-24 inches tall and wide.
Requirements to Grow Hostas Indoors
Hostas are not ideally houseplants but can be grown indoors if certain conditions are considered. The trick to growing Hostas indoors is to provide the plant with temperatures at or below 42F (5 C) to mimic winter-like conditions for 8-12 weeks.
Sunlight
The best way to make the plant thrive indoors is to keep it at a spot that gets bright indirect light with a bit of shade. Do not keep the plant in direct sunlight as it will burn the foliage.
Soil
Avoid using normal garden soil while growing hostas in pots. Use a potting mix with 50% well-rotten manure and 50% loamy soil. If the growing medium is clayey, amend it with peat moss or aged wood bark.
Adding a layer of organic mulch or shredded bark to the growing medium will be wonderful.
Water
Hostas grow best in a constantly moist medium. Water them more during the hot days. For best results, water the plant deeply until it starts to ooze out from the drainage holes at the bottom, whenever the topsoil feels a little dry to touch.
Fertilizer
Use balanced, water-soluble fertilizer once every 4-6 weeks. Diluted fish emulsion or chicken manure also does the job. Do NOT fertilize the plant in the fall or winter when the plant goes dormant.
You can also use Epsom salt to boost the plant’s growth and make its leaves greener and thicker. It also helps the plant to have a better resistance against diseases and pests.

Temperature & Humidity
The plant will be more than happy to dwell inside your home with moderate heat. Avoid keeping it near a heating or AC vent.
Mist the leaves 1-2 times a week to elevate humidity levels. You can also keep its pot on a tray filled with pebbles and water.
