Propagating the Hawaiian Sunshine plant is easy by using cuttings from the parent plant. Snip off 5-6 inches long stem, take off the lower leaves, dip the end in a rooting hormone and plant it in a well-draining potting mix.

Water well and keep the pot where it gets plenty of bright but indirect light. The cutting will form roots in 2-3 weeks.

Location

Hawaiian Sunshine Plant can grow easily in a wide variety of lighting conditions. It is ideal for growing in a space that enjoys bright yet indirect sunlight for the most part of the day.

Avoid keeping it in a shaded spot as it will take away the beautiful variegation.

Soil

This plant prefers moist, rich, well-draining, and slightly alkaline to acidic soil. You can add 1-2 handfuls of perlite, coco coir, or vermiculite in the growing medium to boost drainage.

Water

Hawaiian Sunshine Plant prefers consistently moist soil and this also makes the foliage retain that glossy shine. Water the plant whenever the top 2-3 inches of the soil feels dry.

Do not let the growing medium dry out completely and also refrain from watering the plant daily.

Temperature and Humidity

The Sunshine plant loves to grow at 60-70°F or 15-21°C and cannot tolerate cold. So, keep it away from cold windows or air conditioners if growing indoors.

It likes a humidity level between 50-60 percent. If the air inside your home is too dry, try keeping its pot on a pebble tray filled with water.

Fertilizer

If you have added plenty of organic matter to the growing medium, then don’t worry about feeding Hawaiian Sunshine Plant. To boost the growth, use a balanced liquid feed, diluted to 1/4 of its strength, once in 4-5 weeks.

Pruning and Caring

Trim off loose, dead, damaged, and diseased leaves from time to time. Clean the foliage using a damp, soft cloth and rotate the container once every 15-20 days to maintain fuller growth.

Pests and Diseases

The Hawaiian Sunshine Plant is prone to common pests like mealybugs, thrips, and spider mites. Do not overwater to avoid root rot and most diseases.

Also, avoid using fertilizers with superphosphate or adding high amounts of perlite, as this plant is sensitive to fluoride.
