What is Layering?

ag.purdue.edu

Layering is a simple method to grow more plants from a stem, while it is still attached to the mother plant. The stem is extended and is held under the ground till it forms roots.

The process that you need to follow is simple layering. Bend a healthy branch of the herb in the soil using a metal or wooden hook. At the point where the branch touches the growing medium, make sure that it is devoid of any leaves. After placing it in the soil, cover it with a mix of soil and peat moss to speed up the process.

Keep the plant and the cutting well watered and it will start to root in 7-10 days. At this point, you can snip away the branch from the mother plant to make it an individual plant.
