Sunlight / Location

Aglaonema pictum tricolor favors bright and indirect light as the direct sun can burn its delicate and colorful foliage. In its native habitat, the plant thrives in the undersides of humid tropical forests.

You should also avoid keeping it in the complete shade as it will fade its color. Pick an east-facing spot where it can avail some morning sun and bright indirect light for the rest of the day.

Soil

Use well-draining rich soil consisting of a mix of orchid bark, peat, and perlite. This Chinese evergreen variety dislikes compact soil and appreciates good drainage.

Peat-based potting mix with a bit of perlite is going to work wonders for the plant.

Water

This plant prefers evenly moist soil and hates to be overwatered as it leads to root rot. To avoid this, water the plant well and perform a finger test before watering.

Use distilled or rainwater when soil is dry to touch up to 1-2 inches down.

Temperature

Avoid exposing the plant to a temperature below 50 F (10 C). Ensure winter temperature remains under the range of 60-64 F (16-18 C).

The best temperature for the most beautiful display is between 70-85 F (21-30 C).

Humidity

A humidity level above 55-65 percent is best for this aglaonema variety. You can also keep the ‘tricolor’ on a pebble tray filled with water.

In low humidity, the foliage becomes crisp and wilts rapidly.
